ass-kicking alexei ramirez

hooray!!! we finally got ourselves a win!!!

after suffering a 15-min rain delay, the blue jays jumped on mark buerhle early and were up by 2 in the 2nd. however, my boys came back to tie the game at 2. by the 5th inning, we got the bases loaded and the current infield stinker, alexei ramirez, comes up to bat. since his batting avg was a measly 0.145, and he's been swinging at everything, its another quick out, right?

WRONG!!!

just like casey at bat (or those other baseball stories), lo and behold, the lowly alexei hits a grand slam that put the sox ahead 6-2. it was his 1st home run of the season, and his 5th career grand slam. my boys in black and white managed to get 4 more runs in before the game was over, a final score of 10-2 in favor of us.

now that the series is tied 1-1, its up to the newly-svelte, but outta control jose contreras to give us the win. if he fails again, ozzie and kenny should really seriously start making plans to send this albatross down to the minors. its either that or push into retirement cuz he's clearly lost his pitcher's touch. tomorrow's game wont be broadcast over wgn, but in a way, im dreading that game's outcome, given jose's very poor start and frightening record.

GO WHITE SOX!!!

  2. thank you, burtie!! your phillies had a good game today too-i saw it on tbs.

can you pick players at any time for your fantasy teams? i myself dont know, since i dont play fantasy baseball, or any other sport for that matter.

  3. I was pleased to see that the Phillies did so well. GM_Carson is slowly trying to convert me to being a Phillies Phan. Being a Southerner, my heart lies with the Braves (I've been a Braves fan since 1984). But GM_Carson is persistent.
The way I understand it (this is my first time participating) you join a league that has been created, that league then sets the draft day, where you try to select the players you want. It has to be done before the season begins.

  4. is that so? how did you and gm_carson meet each other, much less start a blog together?

braves fan since 1984-you sound like a grandpa when you wrote that sentance :D. *creaky old voice*: "i've been a braves fan since 1984..."

that sucks about the fantasy league. if the real-live teams get to trade players in the middle of the season, then you guys in the fantasy league should have the same option.

  5. We can trade, and do. I thought you meant you wanted to join a league, sorry, I misinterpreted.

As far as the history of GM_Carson and I...
Our wives grew up together, my wife moved to NC to go to college, that's where I met her. Since our wives hung out together, so did we, and we hit it off real well. That was almost 6 years ago (I say that in my old man's creaky voice).

  6. thats cool :). but wait, NC isnt really in the south. well, the more i think about it, its close enough to georgia to be in the braves sphere of influence, so i guess you can still be loyal to the braves and not live in GA. you're a tar heel, arent you?

yeah, im out here alone in the desert. none of my close friends came out to college here in AZ, and i dont have any close family out here. well, i have an uncle in phoenix, but its not the same as a parent or sibling, you know what i mean?

as for fantasy, trade for alexei if you can. he'll get better as the season progresses.

  7. If NC ever gets their own team, I'll drop the Braves like third period French, even if the new team sucks donkey balls. When I was a kid Dale Murphy was my favorite player. Prior to the Marlin's debut in 93 and the Rays a couple of years later, the only teams "The South" had were the Braves, the ass-hat Astros, and frackin' Rangers. We're so under-represented.

  8. hehe :). based on your tone, i can tell. the midwest isnt bad for baseball, but theres too many teams competing for market space-and they're mostly concentrated around the great-lakes region.

hell, even in chicago, there's stiff competition for the loyalty of the city!!

  9. Huhhuh...you said stiff.

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

If Charlotte would get their act together and stop building new football stadiums for a team that isn't even 20 years old, maybe they could start their own team. But, that will never happen. I don't think the MLB is ready to expand any time soon.

  10. look at the canadian teams. the montreal expos went on to become the nationals. see how good that turned out!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah, I miss the Expos. At least they could spell their names right on their jerseys (unlike the Natinals)

  12. you're telling me. that was utterly pathetic. who's manning the spelling machine, a kindergartener?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Woah, wait, now. I think a kindergartener could spell Nationals ;)

    ReplyDelete
  14. you get my point. someonw fell asleep on the job and as a result, adam dunn and some other shmo on the nationals embarrassed themselves (even more so, given the team they play for) in front of the entire nation

  15. I do indeed. How does a gaff that big get passed so many people?

  16. our public schools have neglected to teach our students proper english-this includes proper spelling. blame the school system, then blame the teacher's unions, and then blame the dep't of education for dumbing our kids down

    ReplyDelete
  17. Interesting. Give teachers some slack though, most are subverting the system by trying to teach regardless of tests. Critical thinking skills are way down, due to multiple guess tests. No Child Left Behind is the worst thing to affect the world of education. I blame administrators and the school boards too. If administrators had the sack to fire a bad teacher, and the school board had the sack to fire bad principals, we wouldn't need national standards. We don't have any unions in North Carolina, so I cannot speak to that. (I have a coupleof friends who are teachers, can you tell?)

  18. its good that you're informed about this. my home state of the people's republic of IL is overrun with unions. you cant even patch a damn pothole without dealing with some teamster and his cronies!
